Match winner Tammy Abraham underlined the importance of Roma’s tense 2-1 win over Empoli tonight following the team’s recent low spell.

The Giallorossi came into tonight’s match desperate for three points after suffering back to back losses to Udinese and Ludogorets, and they duly delivered at the Stadio Carlo Castellani in Tuscany, with goals from Paulo Dybala and Abraham bringing home the win for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Abraham discussed the confidence gained from the tough win over Empoli.

“We played here last season, we know how difficult it is, they are a good team. We had lost two games coming into this, so we needed this for our confidence and we’re happy to win.”

The English forward commented on some of the individual performances put in by the Giallorossi squad.

“I think we had individual performances that were amazing today, Ibanez and Matic, two important players today on the pitch.

“Me and Paulo got the goals, but we’ve got to give credit to other players as well. Zeki as well, it’s a new team and difficult for him, but he put in a good performance.

“We’ve got a lot of things to be proud of and on Thursday we’ve got another game.”

Finally, Abraham spoke about his own performance against Empoli and if he was satisfied.

“I’m getting better and better, I need to keep learning and improving. I’m still getting my fitness back a little bit after injury, but I’m happy to help the team by scoring.”

The 24-year-old Abraham has not yet hit the heights shown in his debut season with Roma, but his work against Empoli was enough to secure the win for a downtrodden Giallorossi.

The English forward has now scored two goals and provided one assist in the opening six league matches, numbers he’s undoubtedly looking to improve upon as the season develops.

  1. Not happy with the defence and the midfield is not compact enough. So many holes between the lines. Mourinho has to address it immediately. Maybe try different combinations
