Lega Serie B President Andrea Abodi insists under-fire Carlo Tavecchio “represents the new” in the FIGC.
Tavecchio is 71 years old and caught up in a scandal over racist remarks, while he has been President of the LND (amateur league) for 15 years.
“I believe Tavecchio’s candidacy does represent the new,” said Abodi on Radio 24.
“It may seem a paradox, but it is the first time in which all four Leagues – Serie A, B, Lega Pro and amateurs – agree. They represent 68 per cent of the vote.
“Demetrio Albertini is a sporting director, but he still needs to gain experience in leadership.”
Many are calling for Tavecchio to step aside after the racist comments, as Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”20″>Fiorentina, Sassuolo” data-scaytid=”21″>Sassuolo, Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”22″>Sampdoria and Cesena have withdrawn their support, while Roma President James Pallotta dubbed him "embarrassing."
“It was certainly a bad booking offence, an orange card if you will, but he is unaccustomed to this pressure.
“He was in charge of the LND, so let’s give him a chance. In two months we could achieve what we haven’t done in 10 years.”
