Lega Serie B President Andrea Abodi insists the six-month UEFA suspension for Carlo Tavecchio “is not really a ban.”
On Tuesday UEFA ruled racist comments made in July meant “Tavecchio will be ineligible for any position as a UEFA Official for a period of six months starting from the communication of this decision.
“Mr. Tavecchio will not participate in the next UEFA Congress scheduled for 24 March 2015.”
Despite that decision condemning his statements, his supporters in Italy remain adamant Tavecchio should be supported.
“I am more and more convinced that Tavecchio was the right choice for Federation President,” Lega Serie B President Abodi told Radio 24.
“Trying to pretend that Tavecchio’s punishment is a ban would be an own goal. It’s not really a ban.”
