Palermo sold Abel Hernandez to Hull City, but Marseille’s Andre Ayew rejected the Tigers for Serie A.
Hull City and Palermo both announced the move simultaneously, but the 24-year-old Uruguay international is a club record signing.
The Sicilians had promised to let Hernandez go this summer after he helped them to promotion from Serie B, so he signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year.
He had been with the Rosanero since January 2009 and it’s reported Hull paid €12m (£10m) for Abel Hernandez.
It’s reported in Italy that Hull City also tried to sign Ayew from Olympique Marseille, but that he turned them down.
The 24-year-old striker is in the final year of his contract with OM and it’s claimed his agents are trying to offer him to various Serie A clubs on transfer deadline day.
Ayew had previously been linked with Napoli, but could also be of interest to Juventus and Inter.
