“We are facing a well-organised team and can make a further step forward in our journey. There’s a long way to go, but as Juventus and Napoli won yesterday, we need a win to keep up the pace with the leaders,” Abbiati told Mediaset Premium.
This is the 11th different line-up for the Rossoneri in 11 competitive games, so is Vincenzo Montella rotating too much?
“The squad has a lot of quality and with so many games over the season, it’s only normal the Coach makes changes. It’s an opportunity for all the players to get their chance.
“There has been a change of system and the only ‘wrong’ match was against Lazio, where we conceded four goals. Defence is important, but the key is scoring more than the opposition.”
Questions continue to be asked about what Milan’s ambitions are this season, considering the over €200m spent on the transfer market.
“Both the ‘old’ players who remained can make up for the last couple of poor seasons, while the new arrivals are eager to prove a point and realise the history of this club. Everyone is ready to step up and give their contribution.
“We are only in Week 6, Milan and Inter are under construction and therefore it’s important to stay as close as possible to the top two during this period.
“Even if Napoli suffered a little against SPAL, they and Juventus look in remarkable shape. We can only try to stay close.”
