Christian Abbiati explained his amazing save in the Milan derby and warned his teammates “the season has a long way to go.”

The Rossoneri beat rivals Inter 3-0 last night to open up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

Some would say Abbiati's save on the Thiago Silva header before half-time, when it was still 1-0, was worth as much as a fourth goal.

“It almost went in, but after my save Ignazio Abate did well to finally clear it,” said the goalkeeper.

“I was also fortunate in that instance, as I just managed to get there in time. Alexandre Pato's early goal was great for us, as it knocked the wind out of Inter's sails and we stepped on to the field with real determination.

“This victory certainly does not mean we've already won the Scudetto. It was an important match, and a derby, but there are seven games to go and many points still up for grabs.

“We must not give in, so instead keep trying to get a result in every match right to the end.”

Abbiati said this week that he was surprised Leonardo opted to cross San Siro to manage Inter. Would there be any ironic dedications to their former Coach?

“I certainly wouldn't. We celebrate for ourselves.”
