Milan team manager Christian Abbiati expects “a beautiful match” in the Europa League Last 16, even if “it’s not the Arsenal of the past”.

The Rossoneri were drawn against the Gunners in Nyon today, with the first leg to be played at San Siro on March 8.

“At the end there were four teams, and honestly at that point I was thinking of drawing RB Salzburg,” Abbiati admitted, speaking to Sky after the ceremony.

“At the end there were four teams, and honestly at that point I was thinking of drawing RB Salzburg,” Abbiati admitted, speaking to Sky after the ceremony.

“It’s a fascinating, historic tie with Arsenal. It will be a beautiful match. It’s not the Arsenal of the past, but to face them at this moment is positive for us, despite the tour de force we’re experiencing.

“The last meeting? We won 4-0 at home and then in London for the return leg it was a disaster, we lost 3-0 and we risked going out.

“In the dressing room there was a heated exchange between we players, we couldn’t give that account of ourselves.

“We managed to hold on to a result which allowed us to qualify and I hope we don’t make the same mistakes this time.

“San Siro will definitely be full, the fans will help us and Milan can do it. We’re a solid group and we hope to continue with this squad.”
