The Italian press had nothing but praised for Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who scored a brace in Napoli’s 4-0 win over Monza yesterday.

The Partenopei picked up the 21-year-old last month from Dinamo Batumi in a deal worth around €10m and it seems to be the signing of the summer in Serie A so far. Kvaratskhelia is incredibly talented and exciting to watch, immediately making a great impression on his new fans.

Kvaratskhelia has scored three goals and provided one assist in his first two appearances for Napoli and he already looks set to grow into a talismanic figure for the team.

La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke highly about Kvaratskhelia after Napoli’s win yesterday, detailing how “the Georgian has already scored with his head, left foot and right foot. Decisive and beautiful to watch, and he can improve a lot.”

Corriere dello Sport matched this praise, paying particular attention to his deadly eye for goal, “in the realm of ‘shooting’, he does it Modric style. Then he scores in his own way, feint, counter-feint, cut to the jugular.”

Tuttosport were the most impressed with the 21-year-old Kvaratskhelia, giving him the highest rating and calling him a star. “A wonder goal was needed to unhinge the Monza safe, something that belongs to him, something more than the usual ‘tiro a giro.’ And then the one-two to baffle the opponent to place the winning goal. A star is born.”

Kvaratskhelia’s ratings in the Italian newspapers:

La Gazzetta dello Sport: 8

Corriere dello Sport: 8

Tuttosport: 9

  1. Gotta say Napoli surprised me. Thought they would be weaker this term but they’ve been the best team I’ve seen so far in Serie A.
