Reminder: Daniel Maldini was sold to Monza for practically nothing, but they have a 50 per cent cut of the sell-on fee.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Maldini has two release clauses, worth €15m for clubs outside Italy and €12m for those within Serie A.

Paolo Maldini is not in the stands tonight, but his wife – and Daniel’s mother – is.

Samuel Chukwueze (Milan)

“It is a very important game for us, we have to win it and go up the table. We will have to give everything, as we lost against Napoli. Rafa is a very important player for us, everybody is important for the team. If you have the opportunity to play, you must give your best. At the same time, Rafa can come off the bench and make the difference.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paulo Fonseca are sitting on the bench, chatting during the warm-up.

Alessandro Nesta (Monza)

“Milan and Lazio are two special clubs for me, but when the referee blows the whistle, we just need to focus on getting the points.

“We’ve had some good performances, including midweek against Atalanta. The fixture list has been tough, but we are here to get points and hope to have them tonight.

“Daniel Maldini is feeling better than a few weeks ago and I think he’s fit to play. Pessina had a nasty bruise against Atalanta, so he’s only ready for the bench.

“Milan have many alternatives in the squad, so rotation shouldn’t make too much difference.”

Paulo Fonseca (Milan)

Theo Hernandez is the Milan captain this evening, Mike Maignan the vice-captain.

Milan make changes

Rafael Leao and Fikayo Tomori dropped yet again.

Milan: Maignan; Terracciano, Thiaw, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Fofana, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Pulisic, Okafor; Morata
