Good evening and welcome to the Football Italia LIVEBLOG for special coverage of the Ballon d’Or ceremony at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Several awards will be handed out on Monday evening, including the Kopa Trophy, Yachine Trophy, Coach of the Year, Club of the year, as well as the men’s and women’s main prizes: The Ballon d’Or itself.

There are a few Italian and Serie A representatives on the lists, including Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, Inter duo Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez, plus Roma striker Artem Dovbyk for the Ballon d’Or, plus Gian Piero Gasperini and Carlo Ancelotti for the coach of the year.

Ancelotti wins Coach of the Year!

The first Italian victory of the night! A shame he’s not here in-person to collect the award. This is the first year that the Coach of the Year award has been handed out at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. An historic feat!

Fourth place for Gianluigi Donnarumma, fifth place for Yann Sommer and sixth for Mike Maignan.

Emiliano Martinez wins back-to-back Yachine Trophies

The Argentina and Aston Villa stopper tops the Italy and Serie A representatives of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Yann Sommer and Mike Maignan.

The Yachiine trophy has only been running since 2019, so Martinez becomes the first ever player to win multiple awards, let alone winning it back-to-back.

The 32-year-old played every minute as Argentina won Copa America this summer.

The onlyt retired player on the 2024 shortlist.

Confirmation of the final Kopa Trophy rankings

 

Lamine Yamal wins Kopa Trophy

The 17-year-old played a crucial role in Spain’s victory at EUO 2024 in the summer, on top of an already-impressive breakthrough season at club level with Barcelona.

There were no Italian or Serie A representatives on the list for the Kopa Trophy in 2024.

The other candidates were: Pau Cubarsi (Barcelona), Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Arda Güler (Real Madrid), Karim Konaté (RB Salzburg), Joao Neves (Benfica/PSG), Savinho (Girona/Manchester City), Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), Warren Zaïre-Emery (PSG).

Real Madrid still not expected to attend

Spainsh outlet Marca report that Real Madrid’s representatives are still not expected to attend tonight’s ceremony, despite rumours they were planning a last-minute turnaround to attend.

That means no Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, who are all in the top 10, nor Carlo Ancelotti, who is nominated for coach of the year. Unconfirmed whether the now-retired Toni Kroos will attend.
