The first Italian victory of the night! A shame he’s not here in-person to collect the award. This is the first year that the Coach of the Year award has been handed out at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. An historic feat!

The Argentina and Aston Villa stopper tops the Italy and Serie A representatives of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Yann Sommer and Mike Maignan.
The Yachiine trophy has only been running since 2019, so Martinez becomes the first ever player to win multiple awards, let alone winning it back-to-back.
The 32-year-old played every minute as Argentina won Copa America this summer.

The 17-year-old played a crucial role in Spain’s victory at EUO 2024 in the summer, on top of an already-impressive breakthrough season at club level with Barcelona.

The other candidates were: Pau Cubarsi (Barcelona), Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Arda Güler (Real Madrid), Karim Konaté (RB Salzburg), Joao Neves (Benfica/PSG), Savinho (Girona/Manchester City), Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), Warren Zaïre-Emery (PSG).

Spainsh outlet Marca report that Real Madrid’s representatives are still not expected to attend tonight’s ceremony, despite rumours they were planning a last-minute turnaround to attend.
That means no Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, who are all in the top 10, nor Carlo Ancelotti, who is nominated for coach of the year. Unconfirmed whether the now-retired Toni Kroos will attend.
