Inter and Milan could be placed under external control after ultras’ arrests – reports

Italian media report that Inter and Milan could be placed under the control of an independent party if directors can’t prove that they’ve cut ties with arrested ultra members allegedly representing Mafia families.

An investigation from the Italian Police and the anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor in Italy has led to the arrests of several Inter and Milan ultras who are suspected of controlling business inside and outside San Siro on behalf of Mafia families.

The Milanese giants are not under investigation and are described by authorities as “damaged parties”, but links between the clubs and some of their ultras are under scrutiny.

Police already said that Inter lacked control over ticket sales, and according to a report from La Repubblica, the Nerazzurri and their city rivals Milan must clarify their relations with arrested ultras members.

It’s already been reported that one of them, Marco Ferdico, pressured Inter coach Simone Inzaghi to have more tickets available for the 2023 Champions League Final against Manchester City.

Inter ultras also met Milan Skriniar after the defender had decided to leave the club in the same year (2023).

At the same time, Milan captain Davide Calabria reportedly met Luca Lucci, a leading Milan ultra who was then arrested.

The latest Repubblica report claims that the Milan Prosecutor has opened a “prevention procedure” for the Nerazzurri by naming two consultants who must ensure that the club has cut ties with ultras allegedly close to Mafia families.

If that isn’t the case, the club could be put under external control until the situation is solved. According to Corriere della Sera, the same applies to Milan. In the meantime, the FIGC has asked for documents from the Milan Prosecutor to understand the clubs’ involvement in the matter.
