Lazio are among the 13 teams at the top of the Europa League table after Matchday 1 was completed, while Roma have just one point from their home fixture.

The tournament has followed in the footsteps of the Champions League this season by scrapping the group phase and having one big league table, with each team facing eight different opponents – four at home and four away.

With the first set of fixtures now played, there are 13 sides who won their opening game and Lazio are among them thanks to a 3-0 victory away to Dynamo Kyiv.

Ajax are on top because their 4-0 victory over Besiktas gives them the best goal difference, so it is a boost for their Italian coach Francesco Farioli.

Lazio are in third with a 3-0 victory, the same as Tottenham Hotspur, who swept Qarabag aside despite an early red card for ex-Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.

When teams are level on points, they are separated in the table by goal difference, then goals scored, then goals scored in away fixtures.
