Napoli have confirmed an adductor injury to their goalkeeper Alex Meret, and according to reports in Italy, the 27-year-old will remain out of action for at least one month.

“Alex Meret underwent diagnostic tests at Pineta Grande Hospital on Monday. The tests revealed a Grade 2 adductor longus strain in his left thigh,” Napoli said in a statement on Monday.

“The 27-year-old goalkeeper has already begun a recovery programme.”

Napoli release Meret injury report, recovery time revealed

The Italy international was subbed off during Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Juventus, so Elia Caprile made his senior debut with the Partenopei.

According to Calciomercato.com, Meret’s injury is more severe than initially thought, and the Italian keeper will be forced to the sidelines for at least one month.

This means that the 27-year-old won’t be available for the Napoli and Italy national team, with the Azzurri meeting Belgium and Israel in the Nations League in October.

Meret has kept three clean sheets in five Serie A games this season.

Napoli return to the pitch on Thursday in a home Coppa Italia game against Palermo.
