Roma have sacked their coach Daniele De Rossi in the ‘team’s interest’, as an official statement published on their website on Wednesday reads.

Roma suddenly announced the sacking of their coach, De Rossi, on Wednesday morning.

Despite the Giallorossi being still winless after four Serie A matches, the decision still comes as a surprise, as De Rossi had got his contract extended until 2027 last June, after six months on Roma’s bench as a caretaker.

The former midfielder had been hired in January 2024 to replace the sacked José Mourinho and has since managed 26 games across Serie A and Europa League, getting 13 wins and six defeats.

De Rossi sacked by Roma: the club’s official statement

“Roma announces that Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team,” the Giallorossi said in a statement.

“The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.

“A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.

“Communication regarding the team’s technical guidance will follow.”

With De Rossi at the helm, Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season and was kicked out of the Europa League semifinal by Bayer Leverkusen.

However, such records proved enough to persuade the club to renew his contract and build their summer transfer-market strategy around the coach’s view.

But Roma’s poor start to the season, which saw the team pick up three points from their first four Serie A games, with just two goals scored in the process, eventually cost De Rossi his job.

  1. Hes gotten the formations all wrong and didnt find the right combinations in chemistry. With the caliber of players on that roster, Roma should be doing better.

  2. Interesting..I posted a few weeks back that I didnt think DDR would see out the year, but didnt expect this this early, despite the poor start. I suspect he lost the dressing room with key players. Geez where to now for Roma…I think Zeman is still around LOL. Roma need a Pep or Conte to elevate them to competing for CL spots.

  3. A tad suprising but I think it’s always a risk when he hasn’t picked up a win after 4 games in regards to the summer addition that they have.

  4. Now if only Ibra and co swallowed their pride, admit they got it all wrong, and get rid of the Portuguese custard tart…

  5. @Rosario, Ibra declared yesterday he is the boss, he makes the calls, people do what he says. That egotistical ungrown kid is the worst decision Milan board has taken in the past 2 decades.

As of roma, hasn’t DDR relegated SPAL from B to serie C? He was on course to bring that blessing to the wrong side of the capital lol
