Ex-Napoli coach Francesco Calzona feels it’s ‘not true’ that Italy lack talents but insists that Luciano Spalletti needs time as the Azzurri head coach.

Italian fans and media are still debating on the poor results at EURO 2024 and ex-Napoli boss Calzona, the Slovakia head coach, discussed the matter during an interview with Radio Anch’Io lo Sport on Monday.

“I don’t think Spalletti made errors. It takes time with national teams,” said Calzona, a former assistant of Spalletti at Napoli.

“He didn’t have enough time to shape the team. It’s all about time; getting good results and a nice playing style with little time available is not easy. Patience is needed. It’s not true that Italy do not have talents, but it takes time.”

Arrigo Sacchi also defended Spalletti, saying that the Azzurri CT “is a victim,” but ex-strikers Fabrizio Ravanelli and Alessandro Altobelli criticised the Certaldo-born coach.
