Vincenzo Italiano and Luciano Spalletti of Fiorentina and Napoli, 2022-23 season.

Napoli are reportedly tempted to make a move for soon-to-be out-of-contract Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano as the club’s next permanent and hopefully longer-term manager according to Saturday’s reports.

The Partenopei have gone through a series of different coaches since Luciano Spalletti lifted the Serie A title at the end of the 2022-23 season, including the short-lived Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri, as well as the current incumbent Francesco Calzona.

Form in the league has improved significantly since Calzona’s appointment, and some reports have suggested that Napoli could keep him on beyond the duration of his current contract, which runs until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

However, according to Calciomercato.com, Fiorentina’s Italiano is also an increasingly enticing option, particularly as he will effectively be a free agent by the summer.

The Viola coach recently informed the club of his desire to move on at the end of his current deal, regardless of Fiorentina’s results before the end of the season.

Calciomercato report that Italiano is at the top of the list of Napoli’s external candidates, and that other options including Francesco Farioli and Monza’s Raffaele Palladino are becoming less popular picks.
