Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano admits the Tuscans didn’t entirely deserve to win against Hellas Verona, but is delighted the Serie A table looks ‘spectacular’ after a 1-0 win on Sunday.

Fiorentina have caught Napoli in fourth place in Serie A after a home victory against Hellas Verona.

The visitors missed a penalty kick in the opening stages and Lucas Beltran’s second Serie A goal this season helped the Tuscans win the game in the second half.

“We struggled in the first half, as our goalkeeper had both negatives with the penalty incident and positives with decisive saves,” Italiano told DAZN.

“We played differently in the second half and scored despite not deserving it much. It had happened to us that we did not score in some games when we deserved it. Today, the opposite thing happened. The guys were a bit tired today, but the victory was great and so it’s our position in the table.

Verona is a tricky team with good strikers technically,” continued Italiano.

“You have to adapt to how they play, and after the first half, we changed something. We must learn from this because it would have been bad to lose today and because it’s spectacular to look at the table now.

“Our target is to improve our placement from last season and we’ll do everything to stay up there. It’s something we want to continue doing.”

Beltran and M’Bala Nzola had started together for the first time, but Italiano admitted he expected more from his strikers.

“It was the first time and it’s something we can do again,” he said.

“We need a signal from everyone up front. We must leave a mark in certain situations; we create a lot, so we must be more clinical. I hope there will be a signal from everyone from now on.”
