Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret is into the final year of his contract at the Stadio Maradona and two top-half Serie A sides are interested in the 2022-23 Scudetto winner according to recent reports.
The 26-year-old had been close to sealing a move away from Napoli in the summer transfer window before last season, but ultimately decided against a move to Spezia before going on to cement his place in Neapolitan history.
Meret racked up 34 appearances in Serie A in the 2022-23 season as Napoli went on to secure the league title for the first time in over 30 years.
In October of 2022, the Napoli keeper penned a contract extension that would tie him to the club until the summer of 2024.
That is, however, just a matter of months away now, and according to recent updates from TMW, both Roma and Fiorentina would be waiting to pounce in the event that Meret becomes a free agent in the summer.
Both Roma and Fiorentina are in need of fresher options between the sticks in the near future, as 35- and 33-year-olds Rui Patricio and Pietro Terraciano are not seen as the long-term answers.
There is still a large chance that Meret extends his contract with Napoli, but TMW notes that President Aurelio De Laurentiis would not be particularly inclined to offer a substantial increase in wages.
