Fiorentina ultras announced they will boycott the game against Juventus after the appeal to postpone it was rejected. ‘We are the only ones actively helping those affected by the floods.’

The match is scheduled to kick off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday at 19.45 GMT.

There are still a few doubts around the fixture, because Tuscany has been hit hardest by flash floods with at least seven dead and one person missing, while hundreds of families have been forced to flee their homes.

More rain is expected this evening as part of Storm Ciaran and that could make the conditions even more difficult.

Nonetheless, the local authorities have not even taken a possible postponement into consideration, infuriating the Curva Fiesole group of Fiorentina ultras.

“Faced with the decision to go ahead and play this game, the Curva Fiesole will not be on the stands,” read their statement.

“There is nothing to celebrate. Sending a signal against this injustice is something that comes from the heart, but also from our heads.

“We were in the Campi area today and it was completely abandoned by the institutions of the State. We are active on this front because now this is our priority and tomorrow we will be back in the mud.

“We repeat: we are the only ones actively helping those affected by the floods. We have seen no sign of the authorities. So we ask what is the point in using hundreds of men to police a football match, while there is a population mourning its dead and still struggling badly.”

Fiorentina ultras have already been working to gather donations of food and water, as well as supplies that can help them clean up the mud from homes, businesses and streets.
