Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino has decided to dismiss Paulo Sousa and bring in Filippo Inzaghi to replace him as head coach, it has been confirmed.

The Granata secured a decent 15th place finish under the Portuguese coach last season but have started the new term in dreadful form, finding themselves just a point from the bottom after eight games, only managing three draws.

Di Marzio detailed how president Iervolino decided to make a change at Salernitana, ready to dismiss Sousa and replace him with Inzaghi.

The Salernitana president met with the former Milan striker in Milan on Monday and was convinced by the coach’s plans, prompting him to make the decision.

The club have now officially confirmed the decision, sacking Sousa and bringing in Inzaghi to try and turn things around.

Inzaghi will now be able to take advantage of the international break to start building his project in Campania.

The former striker has been out of work since the end of August, when he left Serie D side LFA Reggio Calabria.
