Former Italy international Gennaro Gattuso is expected to meet Marseille directors today to sign his contract with the Ligue 1 giants.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that the ex-Napoli and Milan coach has landed in France and will sign a contract with Marseille today.

FootMercato journalist Santi Aouna first reported the agreement between Marseille and Gattuso on Tuesday night. According to Calciomercato.com, Gattuso will sign a contract until June 2024 with an option for a further season.

Gattuso was one of the candidates to take over at Lyon earlier this month, but the French club then picked his ex-Italy teammate Fabio Grosso.

Marcelino stepped down as Marseille coach last week, so Jacques Abardonado was in charge for the last two away games against Ajax in the Europa League and PSG in the Ligue 1.

Gattuso has already coached three foreign clubs in his career: Sion in Switzerland, OFI Crete in Greece and Valencia in Spain.

He was sacked by the La Liga side this past January after winning just seven games from 22.
