Roma have officially announced that they have parted company with academy manager Vincenzo Vergine by mutual consent, with the 55-year-old set to take over in the same role at Milan in the near future.

Vergine had been in charge of the Giallorossi’s youth sector since 2021, having taken over from Alberto De Rossi just over two years ago.

Under Vergine’s guidance, Roma’s youth sides lifted three titles in 2022: the Coppa Italia Primavera, as well as the U16 and U17 league titles. That goes down as the most successful season in the history of Roma’s youth set-up.

In a statement released on Roma’s official club website on Thursday afternoon, Vergine said that he would: “like to thank the Friedkin family and director Tiago Pinto for the opportunity given to me over these seasons.

“I consider it a privilege to have been part of the Giallorossi family and to have been able to offer my contribution to a youth setup which boasts a glorious history. AS Roma and all the people who stood by me during my time here will always have a place in my heart.”

Director Pinto also commented on the matter, adding: “On behalf of the club I’d like to thank Vincenzo for the passion and commitment that he’s shown during his time at Roma.

“Over the course of Vincenzo’s tenure we’ve shared ideas and implemented projects aimed at growing the club’s youth teams. I wish him all the best for the next endeavour in his career,” he concluded.

According to previous reports from Il Corriere dello Sport, sporting director Mauro Leo will be responsible for overseeing the youth teams until a permanent replacement is found.
