FIFA has published their latest men’s rankings, confirming several changes to the top 20 spots, including Italy’s drop to ninth.
The Azzurri are in the initial stages of the Luciano Spalletti project, having only played two games under their new coach following Roberto Mancini’s expected resignation back in August, which brought an end to his rollercoaster five-year spell in charge.
Italy currently sit second in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, six points behind leaders England and tied on seven with Ukraine. Their coming games against Malta and the Three Lions in October are vital in order to shake off Serhiy Rebrov’s passionate side.
In the latest updates to the FIFA men’s rankings, Portugal have overtaken Italy in eight place, with the Azzurri’s draw to North Macedonia ultimately proving punishing. Morocco rose at the expense of Switzerland, whilst world champions Argentina remain in the top spot.
Italy were ranked sixth in the world following their triumph at Euro 2020 but dropped to eighth a year later after falling to North Macedonia in their World Cup play-off clash.

Italy is a top 10 team for sure. They will do damage at the Euros – go deep and may even repeat.
