A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in Piazza Volturno near Piazza Carlo III in Naples during Napoli’s title celebrations in the early hours of Friday morning.

The victim, named by La Repubblica as Vincenzo Costanzo of the Ponticelli neighbourhood, was caught up in a shootout involving three other individuals, including his fiancee.

Costanzo was admitted to the Cardarelli hospital in the city in serious condition and died of his injuries later in the night.

The prefect of Naples Claudio Palomba declared that the incident “was completely unrelated to the victory celebrations.”

The victim reportedly had no prior criminal record, but was related to the D’Amico family, who had been fighting against the De Miccos for control of the Ponticelli region for several years.

Reports claim that Costanzo may have been the victim of an ambush, given the number of shots fired. The other given explanation is a potential argument in the street, which escalated in tragic fashion.

A 26-year-old woman and two men aged 24 and 20 were also shot during the episode, but are expected to make full recoveries from their injuries.
