A shocking declaration on Rai programme Report revealed that Brescia owner and President Massimo Cellino burned classified documents while acting as President of Lega Calcio in 2006.

The programme is conducting an investigation into the Calciopoli scandal, during which Cellino recalled his experience of the various controversies within Italian football in the mid-2000s.

The former Leeds United owner found himself acting in temporary charge of the league shortly after the departure of Adriano Galliani from the position.

In a preview of one of the upcoming Report episodes, Cellino spoke of a particular incident, which involved him burning classified documents in a dustbin.

“I was trying to keep the house in order, it was collapsing. I started cleaning up all the crap that was in there, I didn’t know where to start. We had 6-7 presidents always trying to meet with the League, trying to organize the championship”.

“I had a container with all the dossiers: who was registered with false bank guaranties, who avoided the Irpef etc.

“We went to the square below, there was an iron trash can, we threw everything inside and burned it. Finance came back and didn’t find a f******g thing. And I wasn’t even there.”

The next episode of Report is due to be broadcast on April 17 which will also involve going through a flashdrive handed to the producers by Luciano Moggi, which will apparently deliver previously unseen revelations about the scandal.

In another preview of the upcoming episode on Monday, Moggi said: “On this flash drive I have brought the voices of those who were intercepted and what they say. Of 170,000 interceptions, only 25 concern Juventus.”
