Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has stung Juventus in a recent interview, saying that it’s ‘good for Italian football’ that other teams have begun to put an end to their dominance of the league title.

The Spaniard told DAZN in a recent feature that he has always enjoyed watching Italian calcio, but thought that Serie A had become ‘boring’ when only one team was competing for the championship each year.

Casillas told viewers: “I liked Serie A a lot when I was young, especially when it was considered the best league in the world.  All the greatest players played there.

“The truth is that Serie A went through a period in which only Juventus won and it had become a bit boring, but now the fact that Napoli, as well as Inter and Milan in recent years have stopped Juve’s dominance is good for Italian football.

“Have I ever thought about playing in Serie A? To tell the truth, yes, I have the utmost respect for all teams, but Real Madrid is Real Madrid.”

The Bianconeri won nine consecutive titles between the 2010-11 season and 2019-20. Inter under Antonio Conte stopped them from winning 10 in succession, before Stefano Pioli’s Milan won the scudetto last time out.

Now, it looks certain that Napoli will lift the trophy come the end of this season. There have not been three different Serie A winners within three years since Lazio, Roma and Juve each claimed a title in the seasons between 2000 and 2002.

The last time four different teams won Serie A within four years was between the 1988-89 and 1991-92 seasons, during which time Inter, Napoli, Sampdoria and Milan won one championship each.
