Recent media reports have linked Alvaro Morata with a return to Serie A, with Juventus and Milan interested, but a move to Italy does not seem likely in the summer.
The 30-year-old Spanish forward has a history with the Italian topflight, having spent four years total with Juventus from 2014 to 2016 and 2020 to 2022.
Morata enjoyed his time in Italy and was happy to stay with Juventus last summer, but a deal couldn’t be reached with Atletico Madrid, prompting his return to Spain.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported today that both Juventus and Milan were interested in bringing back Morata to Italy.
The Spaniard would love to return to Serie A, being married to his Italian wife Alice Campiello and having numerous friends in the country, but despite this a return still seems unlikely.
Morata earns around €9m net per season, and whilst he’d be willing to lower this a little to help push through a return, he would still be far too expensive for both Juventus and Milan.
Another reason why he’s unlikely to return is because of the changing nature of Serie A. The top clubs have started to transition into trusting and developing younger players, something Milan and Napoli have recently found success with, and signing an expensive player with low resale value would go against this.
Specifically for Milan, there are also doubts about Morata’s capability to provide enough goals for his cost, as he famously isn’t a hugely prolific striker.
