Paul Pogba has returned to Turin from his specialist knee consultation, so now the player, Juventus and the France medical team will decide how to proceed with three options available.

The midfielder sustained a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee during a training session in Los Angeles over a week ago.

He had been expected to go under the knife immediately in the United States, which would’ve ruled him out for four to six weeks, but instead he flew back to Italy.

A series of consultations were held, concluding today in Lyon with the surgeon who operated on Milan veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Pogba flew back to Turin this afternoon in a private jet, so did not have surgery there either.

According to Sky Sport Italia, there are three options available to Pogba.

He could attempt to avoid an operation and only undergo conservative therapy, similar to the treatment he had at Manchester United on and off during the last couple of seasons, but that is less likely.

The favoured option would be to remove part of the meniscus, which would keep him out for one to two months, but could potentially damage the knee long-term and not be a complete fix for a recurring problem.

Surgery to suture the meniscus would resolve it once and for all, but risk keeping Pogba on the touchline for four to five months, therefore missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

  1. The season has not even started and Serie A players are getting injured. He must have had this problems for years but never treated it.

  2. So option 1 hasn’t worked because he was brutal at Man United. Option 2 could do long-term damage. Option 3 fixes the issue. Makes you wonder why he didn’t do that earlier in the summer or when he was literally sitting there doing nothing in England.
