Still no agreement between Napoli and Lorenzo Insigne for the renewal and the Italy international is reportedly tempted by a move to Inter or Manchester United next summer.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the icy front between Insigne and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is not thawing.
The captain’s time at the Stadio Diego Maradona could come to an end when his deal expires, as Napoli were asking him to cut his wages to stay, while the winger wants an increased salary.
Insigne’s agent Vincenzo Pisacane met with De Laurentiis a few weeks ago but didn’t manage to reach an agreement with the Azzurri patron.
De Laurentiis had refused to meet with Pisacane all summer, delegating the task to directors Cristiano Giuntoli and Andrea Chiavelli.
The newspaper claims the patron had proposed a deal worth €4.6m a season for Insigne and thus increased the previous offer worth €3.5m.
De Laurentiis tried to accelerate to close the operation before the end of the year, hoping to stay in the Scudetto battle for the remainder of the season without the worry of having a distracted captain.
But Insigne’s agent was not convinced by the offer and the report claims the winger requested €7m including bonuses to sign a new deal.
The President believes he made a big offer at a difficult time for the club and in the general economic crisis of Italian football, but there are several clubs interested in Insigne and he could find an improved offer elsewhere.
Inter are reportedly interested in signing the Italy international on a free transfer, as CEO Beppe Marotta already tried this summer.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Inter would be willing to pay him the salary requested, but only if he arrives for free.
Manchester United are mentioned as possible suitors too and the report claims Insigne could be interested in an experience abroad, especially in the Premier League.
Insigne has contributed two goals and three assists in the first seven games this season, helping league leaders Napoli to seven wins in seven Serie A games.
