With news Inter are open to a Lautaro Martinez sale, reports in Spain and Argentina suggest Atletico Madrid would be a more likely destination than Arsenal.

The striker’s contract is due to expire in June 2023 and negotiations have slowed to a halt, with his agent insisting publicly there is “no rush” to improve the current salary.

That suggests he is hoping to push for a transfer next season, so Inter in their current precarious financial status are increasingly open to a summer sale to avoid the issue.

The asking price would be circa €80-90m for the Scudetto and Copa America winner.

Although Arsenal are interested, the player would only leave Inter for a Spanish side, having been so close to Barcelona last year.

Real Madrid are also candidates, but Mundo Deportivo and Argentina’s TNT Sports point to Atletico Madrid as the most likely option for El Toro’s future.

Diego Simeone has long been an admirer of Martinez and has already purchased in Serie A this season with Rodrigo De Paul from Udinese.

They too would need to raise cash for the bid, which could come from the sale of Saul Niguez.
