Milan have released an official statement to announce their CEO Ivan Gazidis has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
“AC Milan informs its fans and stakeholders that our CEO, Ivan Gazidis, has been diagnosed with a cancer of the throat. Based on an extensive series of tests and scans, doctors expect he will make a full recovery,” Milan’s official statement reads.
“Ivan will remain operational during the necessary treatment in specialized clinics, with the full support of the ownership, President Scaroni and the Club’s Senior Management.”
Gazidis ensured his cancer is curable and is confident it will be treated successfully.
“Of course, there is never a good time for a diagnosis of cancer. But I have a very curable form of cancer and a positive diagnosis. I have world-class medical expertise, and the support of so many loved ones and everyone at the Club, and I am confident based on all advice that cancer will be treated successfully, with a full recovery,” the former Arsenal director said.
“My diagnosis demonstrates the importance of regular medical checkups, even if you don’t have symptoms. I would encourage everyone to prioritise their health and to make sure, even in the day to day obligations of life and work, that they have their regular medical checkups.”

Gazidis was born in Johannesburg but moved to Manchester at the age of four.
He graduated with a degree in law in 1986 and in 1992 he moved to the United States where he worked for the law firm Latham & Watkins.
In 1994, he became the MLS’ deputy commissioner overseeing the league’s strategic and business decisions.
In 2008, he was appointed Arsenal chief executive and remained in charge for over ten years, leaving North London in 2018 to join Milan.
During his time at Arsenal, the Gunners won six trophies: three FA Cups and three Community Shields.
He oversaw the departure of legendary Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger who was replaced by Unai Emery in 2018.
He took up his new role at Milan on December 1 2018.
