Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he’s trying to talk to Juventus President Andrea Agnelli, but he doesn’t pick up the phone, and adds the Super League ‘won’t solve financial problems.’

Bayern Munich have rejected the chance to join the Super League and insist the Champions League is the best competition in the world.

“I wanted to talk to Agnelli, but I could not manage to reach him on the phone. I don’t know his motivations and I don’t want to criticise him without knowing. Maybe there is a reason I don’t know,” the Bayern Munich CEO told Il Corriere della Sera.

Juventus are among the 12 clubs that announced the Super League on Sunday, and Agnelli has been named its vice president.

Former Rummenigge’s club Inter are also involved in the competition.

“I heard rumours they have financial problems, the potential income seems enormous, but it won’t be enough to solve financial problems in the long run. You can’t keep cashing in to compensate for the expenses," the former Germany international said.

“We are out of the Super League because we don’t want to take part in it. We are happy to play the Bundesliga. It’s our bread and butter, as the English say.

“We are happy to be part of the Champions League, and e don’t forget the responsibility towards our fans, who are generally against such reforms. We feel the responsibility towards football in general.”
