Ascoli were up 2-1 in the 94th minute of the match when Augustus Kargbo found the net for Reggiana, but the assistant referee on the line waved his flag and Meraviglia blew his whistle to disallow the goal.

The referee then signalled for the intervention of VAR to take a closer look at the situation, forgetting that VAR doesn’t exist in Serie B. Luckily for the protagonist Meraviglia, the decision was correct in the first place.
