Former Roma player Stephan El Shaarawy is looking to make a return to the club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

El Shaarawy left the Giallorossi for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Greeland Shenhua last summer, and reportedly earns €14m a season in wages.

Roma sold the former Milan forward for a fee believed to be in the region of €16m.

La Gazzetta states that El Shaarawy now wants to return to the Giallorossi, and is willing to massively cut his salary in order to push through the move.

The 28-year-old played in the capital for four seasons, scoring 34 Serie A goals.

El Shaarawy won the Chinese FA Cup in December, winning the two-legged affair against Graziano Pelle’s Shandong Luneng Taishan.
