Sassuolo boss Roberto De Zerbi admits his side are still ‘burning’ from their late defeat to Bologna ahead of Thursday’s match against Chievo.

Sassuolo went an eighth game without a win last weekend, going down 2-1 to Mattia Destro’s injury-time winner for Bologna, but De Zerbi maintains the Neroverdi deserve more than their return of 32 points.

“There must be a desire for revenge because Sunday’s game burned a lot and still burns for how we played and threw away a deserved result,” he said at a Press conference.

“It’s not a difficult time for us, but it’s a delicate moment. We’re collecting too little compared to what we deserved.

“In our last four games, we’ve collected only one point against Napoli and we deserved a few more.

“A few games are enough to rearrange everything. We have the quality and with all our issues, we’ve shown that we know how to play football.

“Chievo have caused problems for many teams. It’ll be difficult tomorrow. I don’t know if Chievo will be carefree, but I know how we are and we’ll do everything to win, I have no doubt.

“if we think it’ll be easy then we haven’t understood anything about where we are. I don’t think that’s the case because these lads are smart.

“In our last four games we only took a point, but we did great in three of them, against Milan, Napoli and Bologna.

“We’ve got very little back, so either we see this and cry about it, or we think clearly and see our performances because we’ve got the points we have through our performances, so we have to focus on that.

“Babacar was involved in the bad things that happened to us against Bologna, but for me he had a great game, perhaps his best. He got to every ball.

“Without Boateng, he’s been given more responsibility and it’s something that he must shoulder in the right way.

“We need to look for him even more. I hope this can be the turning point. I believe Boga can play tomorrow.

“Marlon’s got hurt again and we’ll see how long we must make do without him, but I think it’ll be for a little while.

“The others are all fine. It’s clear that some of the lads have also played so much for their national teams, and that must be taken into account.”
