The Slovenia international has been suffering from lymphadenitis, a swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck caused by an infection.

It had already ruled him out of their Europa League preliminary round ties and the latest reports from the Corriere di Bergamo claim the situation isn’t progressing as quickly as hoped.

Ilicic is therefore being taken into hospital so he can be given a drip of antibiotics until tomorrow to intensify the recovery process.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll be fit enough to play the Serie A opener against Frosinone next Monday.
