Argentinos Juniors deny Inter are close to Nicolas Gonzalez, insisting “a German club is leading the race” for the young striker.

He only recently turned 20 and is already making quite an impact with seven goals in 23 Primera Division games.

“We know that there is interest from Italy, but the truth is we have not received any formal proposals from any Serie A club,” President Cristian Malaspina told FCInterNews.it.

“There are other clubs in Europe who are interested in signing him, so we are certainly not in an advanced phase of negotiations, despite what reports in Italy may say.

“I won’t tell you the name of the club that is in advanced negotiations, but I can reveal the country and it is a top German club. Let’s just say they are leading the race because negotiations with them are far more advanced than any of the Italian clubs. I already visited them in January.

“I prefer not to say how much the player will cost. The clubs that are interested know full well that he’ll stay in Argentina for another year, as the season has already begun.”
