“We had such a strong start and the desire to bring home the result. It’s natural that during a game the news comes through from the other match,” Maggio told Mediaset Premium after a 2-1 loss to Feyenoord and City falling 2-1 in Ukraine.
“It’s disappointing to end the group with a defeat, but we can learn from this experience and next year focus on starting the Champions League on the right foot.
“The regrets are around that first match in Ukraine. When you lose the opener, it becomes tough to recover and you’re constantly under pressure. It’s a pity for the fans, as we wanted to bring home the result, even if Manchester City didn’t win either.”
It has been a damning week for Napoli, who lost their unbeaten Serie A record and the top of the table with a 1-0 defeat to Juventus.
“We must keep our heads high, as we are still up there in Serie A and there is always hope. It’s very tight for the Scudetto and we’re fighting it out with three or four other sides.
“Naturally, the mood isn’t great after two defeats, but we have to push forward and keep going.”
