Roma defender Juan Jesus hits back at his critics – “I’m still only 26, even though they talk about me like I’m 32…”

The Brazilian has played 90 minutes in both of the Giallorossi’s Serie A games so far, first in the centre and then covering at right-back.

“I’ve always shown my worth,” Juan Jesus told Sky.

“Even when I was at Inter the newspapers would do the formations and I’d be out, but then at the start of the season I was always in.

“Even when I was at Inter the newspapers would do the formations and I’d be out, but then at the start of the season I was always in.

“I’m fine like this, I’m always focused on the pitch and this year I want to improve again because I’m still young.

“I’m still only 26, even though they talk about me like I’m 32. This will be an important year for both me and Roma.

“We’ve improved in the development of our game, but there are still certain things we need to work on. We did well in the first two games.

“We need to keep things tighter at the end of games, with Inter we were stretched and they took advantage of that.

“We’ve done a lot of work over these past two weeks, we’re good even if it’s clear we can always improve. We did a lot of work and we’re fine, we’re ready for the challenge.

“We [the defenders] are closer to the midfielders now, to help out the attackers too. We have more pitch to cover, but with [Kostas] Manolas, who is fast, we can do it.”
