Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini assured Alberto Gilardino, Stefano Sorrentino and Enzo Maresca “are no big loss.”

The famously outspoken patron commented on the summer departures at today’s Press conference.

“In my view, Gilardino and Sorrentino are no big loss. We don’t miss Maresca and the strikers we’ve got now are stronger than Gila."

Veteran striker Gilardino was released a year early to join Empoli, while goalkeeper Sorrentino has moved to Chievo as a free agent.

“The squad is basically the same as last season, only without Franco Vazquez. We won’t get any big signings this summer, but rather a focused transfer market.

“If (new director Rino) Foschi was able to bring Cesena into Serie A without a Euro, he can do it with Palermo selling Vazquez and €3.5m for Emiliano Viviano and Ahmad Benali.”
