Antonio Conte admits he already has “a clear idea” of what his 23-man Italy squad will be for Euro 2016.

The CT has named a 30-man preliminary squad, and the players will have the chance to stake their claim in a friendly with Scotland on Sunday.

However, the Azzurri Coach warns there are not many places up for grabs.

“In my head I know who to take to the European Championship,” Conte confirmed in a Press conference at Coverciano today.

“We’re on the second ballot, there will be two, or at maximum three [changes]. My ideas are very clear though, and I’m very clear from this point of view.

“Doubts? I honestly have very few in my head, I already have a list of 24 or 25.

“Four or five strikers? That’s one of the choices.”

Thiago Motta and Riccardo Montolivo are both carrying knocks, but have nonetheless been included in the squad.

“Montolivo and Thiago Motta are here because we’re leaving nothing to chance. Right now I need people to work, to prepare them from every point of view.

“It will be important to recover very quickly, and in our situation we can’t wait for anyone. We need people who are fit.

“There are always painful choices. I wanted to bring [Francesco] Acerbi and [Lorenzo] De Silvestri. The same for [Roberto] Soriano, who has always been with us.

“But those are the choices you have to make.”
