Fredy Guarin confirms Inter “can think about winning the Scudetto” and credits Coach Roberto Mancini with their success.

The Nerazzurri have started the campaign with five straight wins, their best run for 49 years.

“The great thing about football is that it can change so quickly,” Guarin told reporters at the launch of his website FredyGuarin.com.

“After three years in which we were unable to find the right path, there were positive changes. I had difficulty during that period, but I think I gained in experience and today we have a great opportunity with this team, this Coach and these new players to lift our heads and think about winning the Scudetto.

“After last year, I don’t think anyone expected such a strong start. The important thing is to be aware of our capabilities and be prepared to do better every time.

“To be considered a great team, you have to earn it one match at a time. Mentality is very important, as is correcting errors. What really counts is to be a solid squad, to not leave room for doubt.”

Despite their excellent results, the media in Italy has been critical of Inter for notching up a series of 1-0 wins without playing particularly well.

“What do I say to those critics? Nothing. The pitch does the talking, as far as we’re concerned it’s motivation to do better.

“Last season we had already achieved a certain mentality with the Coach, but it always takes time to understand his work, his directions and to put them into practice.”

Guarin has on several occasions been heavily linked with a move away from Inter.

“In reality I never felt distant from Inter. The club let me know I was part of their plans and I said from day one that Inter is the proudest I’ve been of any team I played for.

“Would I like to end my career at Inter? You never know what might happen, but I hope to win with Inter now.”
