The Italy international was linked with a move to Juventus in the summer but ended up staying with the Rosanero as his strike partner Paulo Dybala made the move to the Old Lady.

Vazquez told Gazzetta delllo Sport about his strong relationship with Dybala and objectives for the future.

“I’m at Palermo and want to give them everything, it’s not a given that I’m leaving,” said the 26-year-old.

“I’m doing well in Italy and for me Serie A is the best, so I’m not intending to leave.

“Of course, I’d like to play in a Champions League team.”

“I don’t think about Juve’s interest in me anymore, I’m happy to stay at Palermo because this was a sign of respect.

“If we aim too high we’ll end up hurting ourselves. Then, if something better than staying up happens, all the better.

“To think about repeating last season’s 49 points is a challenge, possible but not easy.

“I got on very well with Paulo, but now I’m doing magnificently with my new teammates.

“I miss Dybala above all as a friend. We’re always in contact, I called him before his Champions League debut, he was as excited as a child.

“I told him to stay calm and that everything would go well. I wasn’t wrong.

“Am I envious? You must be joking, I love him like a brother. If his experience with the Bianconeri goes well, I’ll be happy for him.”
