Maurizio Sarri believes Gonzalo Higuain can ‘explode’ under his guidance at Napoli this season.

The Coach took over at San Paolo this summer after Rafa Benitez left to join Real Madrid, and believes he can get even more out of the striker who has 35 goals in his 69 Serie A games.

“He’s made himself available,” Sarri told a Press conference when asked about Higuain.

“He’s a humble guy, and the relationship is normal. He’s a smart lad, I was surprised by some of his reflections. He can give us what a world-class player does.

“He can make us win a lot at a high level. He’s a resource for us. I look at the player and all I see is an asset for us, I still feel he has a lot he can do, and he can definitely explode.”

The former Empoli boss also praised Jose Callejon, and hopes the Spaniard will stay with the Partenopei.

“He has fallen in love with his new role [as a secondary striker], he’s not just important for us, he’s fundamental.

“I’m very happy with him, he has loosened-up in his relationship with us, and I’ve seen him smiling even if his character maybe dictates he doesn’t smile that much.

“I want him to stay, and he seems happy to do that. He’s a very important player.”
