The Brazilian echoed the words of his teammates Mattia Cassani and Cristiano Lucarelli, stating that the players want to protect club staff.

“We got our last salary in July, since then there have just been words,” Santacroce lamented during an appearance on ‘Il Processo del Lunedi’ on Rai Sport.

"The thing that has bothered us most in recent months is the lies we’ve been told. This situation has gone on for so long, in six or seven months we haven’t had any wages.

“We’d like to send a message to the proper authorities. We’ve spoken between us, we have a lot to think about.

“I cannot 100 per cent guarantee that we’ll play on Sunday. We’re footballers, and we like to play, but maybe if we don’t play a couple of games it will make people reflect on who is affected.

“We certainly need to find a solution with the wages. It’s not just our salaries, but the salaries of the staff and their families who aren’t lucky enough to earn what we earn, and we have to resolve that situation."
