Fiorentina have suffered another setback to their striking department, with the news that Federico Bernardeschi has fractured his ankle.

Already without Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez through most of this season, the Viola are now set to be without their Italy Under-21 international for a currently unspecified period.

“Fiorentina announces that athlete Federico Bernardeschi during training today, in a collision in play, suffered a compound fracture to the lateral malleolus, as evidenced by diagnostic tests,” Fiorentina report in a statement released on their website today.

“The athlete will tomorrow undergo surgery for stabilisation and synthesis.”

The injury is an ankle fracture, which can take between weeks and months to recover from, depending on its severity.

Whilst Mario Gomez made his comeback for La Viola in the weekend defeat to Sampdoria, Vincenzo Montella’s side must do without Rossi until February next year.
