Italy’s World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro has reportedly had assets worth €900,000 seized in an investigation into alleged tax fraud.

The former centre-back, who captained the Azzurri to World Cup glory in 2006, is reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport as being investigated in connection with an probe into a luxury boat rental business which Cannavaro ran with his wife, Daniela.

The Gazzetta reports that a judge in Naples ordered the seizure of money from Cannavaro’s bank account as well as a €180,000 yacht over allegations that the company Fd Service owes over €1m in unpaid taxes.

The Milan-based newspaper alleges that Cannavaro and his wife used three FD Service yachts for personal use, rather than for hire as declared.

The Italian Agency of Revenue apparently claims that FD Service underpaid on Corporation Tax, Regional Tax and VAT between 2005 and 2010.
