Riccardo Montolivo has expressed his hope that the upcoming World Cup will be Giuseppe Rossi’s time to shine.

The Fiorentina forward missed almost the entire second half of the club season and it still remains to be seen whether he will return to full fitness before the tournament in Brazil.

Speaking at a Press conference today, the Milan midfielder said Rossi was deserving of some luck after a turbulent 2014 thus far.

He also discussed his own role in the Azzurri team, should he be selected to play by national Coach Cesare Prandelli.

“I wish Rossi all the best and I hope it can be his World Cup,” Montolivo said. “I hope he can be the surprise package of this Italy team. He is a boy who deserves it.

“The role of the orchestrators in the midfield is always to give the team control of the game by having good possession of the ball.

“Players’ movements and the formation can change, but the role of the playmaker always remains the same.”

The 29-year-old was then asked about the potential of the Brazilian climate to have an impact on his team’s fortunes during the tournament.

“Last year [in the Confederations Cup] we were a little surprised. The weather conditions will be of greater relevance in this tournament compared with other tournaments in other countries.

“We are working well however, so we are convinced that we will suffer less than we did last year.”
