Milan stalwart Daniele Massaro believes the Rossoneri’s season could have been different had they had Stephan El Shaarawy available.

The 52-year-old, who is now working at the club as a public relations manager, also stressed the importance of the team reaching the Europa League.

“There are important points up for grabs before the derby with Inter,” Massaro said to the Milan Channel.

“Until a short while ago no one thought we would fight for the Europa League. Now though there is the chance for us and we need to try.

“It would be important for us to be in Europe next year.

“Winning is good for morale and in the last few games the performances haven’t been great. But at this stage it’s just important to get the three points.

“Abate and De Sciglio are fresh, I hope they are able to now give an important helping hand to the team.

“El Shaarawy? It’s better to have someone like him in the squad than not, he has been out for too long.

“Maybe with his goals and performances the season could have gone better.

“We hope he can get back on the pitch soon and maybe we’ll even see him at the World Cup.”
