Mattia Destro is “so proud” to receive a call-up for Italy’s match against England and is settling into his new Roma squad.

The striker is one of several new faces in Cesare Prandelli’s list for the international friendly in Berne on Wednesday.

“It is always emotional and makes me very proud to be called to represent my country,” he told Vocegiallorossa.it.

“It pushes me forward to work harder and get even better.”

The former Genoa and Siena hitman joined Roma this summer and is still getting to know the all-attack football of Zdenek Zeman, netting a hat-trick in last night's test.

“The Coach asks us to try certain things in training and we are giving it our all, which means making quite a few mistakes. That’s what friendlies are for and we are preparing for the season ahead.

“Zeman asks me to often change places with Pablo Osvaldo. When needed, I have to help the team in defence, but the Coach also requests specific movements going forward.”
